Read Genesis 40

“And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God?” – Genesis 40:8 KJV

Key thought: Waiting is not wasted when we continue serving others and giving God the glory for every gift.

Joseph had his own unresolved dreams, yet in prison he noticed the troubled faces of two other men. Pain had not completely turned him inward. He asked what was wrong, listened, and used his God-given gift to serve them.

Joseph did not present himself as the source of revelation. “Do not interpretations belong to God?” His gift was real, but the glory belonged to the Lord. Spiritual gifts become dangerous when we use them to build dependence on ourselves rather than directing people toward God.

The interpretations came true. The cupbearer was restored, and Joseph asked to be remembered. That request was not faithlessness; it was a reasonable appeal for justice. Yet the cupbearer forgot him for two full years. God’s delay can feel like human abandonment, especially after we have served faithfully.

The chapter ends before Joseph’s situation changes. Some days of devotion end that way too. There is no visible breakthrough, only another day to remain faithful. But God was positioning the cupbearer’s memory for the precise moment when Pharaoh would need an interpreter. What looked like forgotten time was held inside divine timing.

Truth to Carry Today:

I am not forgotten by God when people fail to remember me. I can keep serving faithfully while I wait.

Self Reflection

1. Has disappointment made me stop noticing the needs of people around me?

2. Do I give God clear glory for the gifts He has entrusted to me?

3. What faithful responsibility remains in front of me while I wait for change?

Prayer

God, You remember me even when people forget. Protect me from self-pity and from using spiritual gifts for my own importance. Help me notice and serve those around me. I bring You my honest request for deliverance, yet I trust Your timing. Keep my heart alive, humble, and faithful in the waiting room. Amen.
