Day 1: 8/24/26

Read: Genesis 1

Key verse: “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3

The Bible begins with God

“In the beginning God created.” Before there was a world, a clock, a nation, or a human need, God already was. He is eternal, self-existent, and dependent on nothing outside Himself. Everything else exists because He willed it, spoke it, and sustained it. Genesis 1 repeatedly declares, “Then God said,” followed by, “and it was so.”

Devotional

God does not struggle with darkness or negotiate with chaos. His Word carries His authority and accomplishes His purpose. The darkness may be real, but it is never equal to God. When He commands light to appear, darkness cannot refuse Him.

Creation also reveals God as a God of order. He forms, fills, separates, names, and blesses. He does not leave creation empty and without purpose. This gives us hope when an area of life feels confused or unfruitful. The same God who brought order from the unformed earth can bring clarity, fruitfulness, and direction into surrendered lives.

Human beings are the crown of God’s earthly creation. Male and female were made in His image—not because we look physically like God, but because we were created to reflect His character, represent His rule, relate to Him, and steward what He made. Human dignity is therefore not earned through beauty, success, intelligence, wealth, race, age, or social position. Every person possesses value because every person bears the Creator’s image.

God examined all He had made and called it “very good.” Sin would later damage creation, but it could not erase God’s ownership or destroy His purpose. Your life is not an accident. You were created by God, bear His image, and are called to live under His loving authority.

Truth to carry today

God’s Word is more powerful than the darkness around me, and my identity begins with the God who created me.

Self-reflection

What area of my life currently feels dark, empty, or disordered? Have I been defining my worth by achievement or by the truth that I bear God’s image? What might faithful stewardship look like in my relationships, abilities, time, and responsibilities today?

Prayer

Creator God, You existed before all things, and everything was made through Your wisdom and power. Speak Your light into every dark and confused place in me. Bring Your divine order where my thoughts, emotions, or circumstances feel chaotic. Forgive me for measuring my worth by human standards. Establish my identity in the truth that I was created in Your image and for Your purpose. Teach me to reflect Your character and faithfully steward everything You have entrusted to me. Let my life declare that You are good, wise, and worthy of worship. In Jesus’ name, amen.
